My NYC Panel Blog Hop

I’ll be posting all week this week about the My NYC pillow panel from Gotham Quilts! I’m so excited to share my project with you tomorrow. For today, I have a special bonus project made by my Mom. Let me tell you, having another sewist in the house is great when you have blog hops coming up. Especially if you have COVID brain after a booster and tell your team you are launching the hop a day earlier than planned. So, welcome to a sneak peek at the My NYC Pillow Panel Blog Hop!

I ordered up three panels for my projects – I had big plans. I immediately lost one of them. Poof. Some days I don’t love myself. Mom snagged another, along with the apron pattern I had in the studio. Then she came back in and rummaged through the leftovers from my last blog hop and took my Pizza Rat scraps! (I jest – she always asks, and we share. I’ve been known to finish off her Kona bolts when she isn’t paying attention.)

For this project she used the Pizza Rat motif and made an apron. Isn’t it hysterical?

The pattern is the Bistro Apron by Amy Barickman. Mom must love it, because this is the third time she has used this pattern.

To make the Pizza Rat apron you will need:

Mom doesn’t stop and take process photos, so I’m going to explain the process. It is pretty straightforward, though.

Cut your apron background out according to pattern. Cut out the Pizza Rat pillow from the panel, leaving 1/4″ seam allowance all the way around. Clip into any concave curves, getting close to the printing. Using needle-turn appliqué, stitch your rat to your apron. Mom loves handwork. If you don’t, you could also use fusible and stitch it down.

Mom cut the pockets and bottom panel out of the Pizza Rat print, but didn’t have enough to make the straps match.

It really is adorable. I can’t wait to see how my Thanksgiving guests respond to the rat apron. They didn’t appreciate my half-dressed firemen apron at all.

I can’t wait to share my project tomorrow, and see what everyone else made for the rest of the week. Here is the blog hop lineup. I hope you can make time to follow along with all of these fantastic makers!

I think any of the motifs would work beautifully on an apron. How cool would it be to give everyone an NYC themed apron as a holiday gift?
