Glorified Star of The East

Hey! I’m so excited to share this quilt I designed for AccuQuilt! I used the brand new Star of the East BOB die and combined it with the Glorified Nine Patch BOB. Combining blocks from these premium dies is always fun. I’m kind of tapped out on quilt names, so I’ve cleverly combined the two into Glorified Star of the East. Brilliant, right?

This quilt design was another one that I drafted back in February, while I was in Florida. The working title was Key Largo, but I decided the final name should be a little more descriptive.

It did deviate from my plans. Originally, it was supposed to have a curved edge, which I have done before and loved, but the layout didn’t work for it this time. My next quilt using the Glorified Nine Patch will definitely have a curving edge. I just need to remember to plan the layout based on that.

Glorified Nine Patch is one of my favorite blocks – it combines curves with a clever secondary design. I love how it makes big circles if you alternate the setting with another block. I decided to drop the Star of the East block into the open spaces, and I loved it. I also decided to not use a white background, opting to go with this delicious purple Peppered Cotton. I’m legitimately sad that this quilt belongs to AccuQuilt now. It’s so nice.

Doesn’t AccuQuilt do a beautiful job with their photography?

The pattern for Glorified Star of the East is available for free on the AccuQuilt website, and I have put up a special Tips and Tricks blog post to help you work through it.

You can see both this quilt and my Rainbow Road to Fortune quilt highlighted in the AccuQuilt Launch party video. Pam and Erica show off my quilts at minute 44:40. Getting the love via video feels pretty good.

Thank you to Studio E fabrics and AccuQuilt for supporting my creativity! You are both so wonderful to work with.
