Jelly Roll Rug, Take 2

I love the pattern RJ Designs put out for the Jelly Roll Rug *.  It is so much fun watching the fabrics come together.  The fact that I can’t figure out how to control it means I can relax and just play.

My rainbow version is fabulous, but doesn’t really go with the decor in my home.  The color palette for this one was chosen with my kitchen in mind.  I had a very pretty backsplash with glass tiles in whites, light grey, and pale aqua.  I’ve used it as a backdrop for photos in the past.

I decided to make this one using yardage, rather than a jelly roll.  I love precuts, but sometimes I need to control my color palette.  I bought 9 – 1/2 yard cuts.  I did choose one that I really liked the shape of.  It had some pinks, but with creative cutting, I only showed the blues.  All of the fabrics came from Gotham Quilts *.

I sorted the colors out, and kept like fabrics connected to each other.  They are such a pretty grouping.

Oscar really enjoyed playing with the ball I made with the prepared cord.

He did add a little bit of time with re-wrapping the cord.

He was not sorry for making a mess. Obviously, it was my fault for letting him play with the ball, but we were both having fun.

Jelly Roll Rug with Dizzy Quilter

This one came out much flatter than my first attempt.  I set my machine up on the kitchen table, and used some books to give myself a flat surface.  It worked very well.  One good spray with Best Press, and a nice steamy iron, and it flattened out beautifully.

Beauty feels that Oscar gets too much attention on my blog.  She approves of the jelly roll rug, too.

Have you tried the pattern out yet?  It is so much fun, and I used up a lot of batting scraps while making it.

    1. I think it did. I waited a month or more to finish it, though, so it is hard to tell. It certainly went together better.

  1. Hi Jen! Aww, Beauty we love you too! Oscar was having a blast with that jelly roll ball – I love Oscar. Your new rug looks great in your new kitchen, and I LOVE, love, LOVEEEEEE that floor. I want to redo my kitchen floor, so I notice them in any picture now. Is it real wood? Do you like how it cleans up? Kind of off topic! ~smile~ Roseanne

    1. That is my old floor. 😞
It is hand scraped hardwood, and the second home I had it in. I love it, especially with dogs. Scratches just increase the patina, and it cleans up very nicely.

  2. I love this version too! Not everyone has a room for a rainbow rug – but that one was gorgeous. One of my friends is teaching it – I keep getting tempted – but havent’ jumped on it.

  3. Love it! I have never seen one that turns out badly, they are all so fun! I have not tried it yet but have a spot in my bedroom that needs a rug that size, so I’ve got it in mind for some day.
