The Centerpiece Tablemat

I had another shop sample to work on last week.  It is for an octagonal table mat.  Not really my thing, but fun to make.
This pattern is from Sweet Treasures, designed by Terri Staats.
It came together easily, although I did make a mistake as I added the rounds.  It’s important to add the strips in the same direction each round.  Apparently I put one of them on the other way.  I don’t think it is a major mistake.
IMG_3523It was a little shocking working in Christmas fabrics.  It did get some creative juices flowing, though.
IMG_3524I just love the backing fabric the shop gave me.  It is a digital print from Hoffmann.  I quilted this on my Gammill, with an all over meander.  The fabric choices are so busy that I didn’t think the additional noise of elaborate quilting was required.  I did a scrappy binding, of course.

  1. Great shop sample! I work in a shop, too, and Christmas fabrics never feel right to me in the heat of the summer.

  2. I love that backing too. Very classy Christmas. This would be a fun showcase for a larger print in the middle. Perfect for that bouquet of holiday poinsettias.

  3. That looks great! I’m working on Christmas, too. It does seem weird in summer, but maybe it will keep me cooler!
