I’m a little late on this post – where has the time gone? One of these days I’ll learn time management skills. Probably tomorrow, or maybe Monday.
The Island Batik Ambassadors were tasked with making a table runner this month, preferably with an appliqué design. I’m not into runners, or table textiles in general, so like a mature adult, I whined for a few weeks before doing mine.
I picked up an AccuQuilt Fall Medley die at a local store for a great price, and we were off to the races. I made this cute little runner, and I might give it away to a family member who loves table top textiles the opposite amount from me. If something in her house holds still – bam! – doily, runner, tablecloth, placemat, and sometimes, multiples and/or layers.
These are the fabrics I chose to make my masterpiece. I started with this gorgeous green, called Forest Floor. Then, inspired by the beautiful landscape in New Jersey, I chose colors for the leaves based on my neighborhood trees.
This project was super easy. I cut out a piece of fabric 44″ x 12″. I rough cut some fusible interfacing larger than the die cuts I needed, fused it onto my leaf, pumpkin and acorn pieces, and cut it out. I fused them down, then quilted the whole piece. I would have finished it two weeks ago, but I’ve had some custom quilting projects that I was rushing to finish up.
I meandered the background, outlined the appliqués, and added some interest within each patch. The leaves got veins, the pumpkins got dimples, and the acorns had a little zigzag in the caps.
I finished it all off with a brown binding. I think it looks great on my table, but will look even better at Thanksgiving on someone else’s.
Thanks so much to Island Batik for providing the fabrics for this project. I finished it using Warm & Natural batting, and Fantastico thread from Superior Threads.
Very festive, will look awesome on any table….love it
Nice!
Great find on the die and great runner! Nice that it will go to someone who uses them.
Super cute! Love that olive green you used for the background!
Thanks, Alison! I love it, too. I wish I had more than 1/2 yard of it!
