2019 Island Batik Ambassador Box #2

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… My second Island Batik Ambassador box has arrived! Let’s check out all of the goodies I received!

Of course, there is a goofy video for your enjoyment.

Haha. I just watched the video, and I forgot to make the brownies! Island Batik is my favorite diet aide. Also, thank you Sweet Baby Jesus for not having Toby poop while I was filming.

First up – look at all of this yummy fabric. This box is heavy on pre-cuts, and I couldn’t be happier. I adore designing and sewing with pre-cuts. I’m a scrappy girl – give me all of the fabric, but just little pieces, please.

Check out these mermaids! The bright colors are so exciting, aren’t they? This collection is called Tropical Escape, and I have the most gorgeous fat quarter bundle. Fussy cutting, here I come. Wouldn’t they look great against a black background?

The Kaleidoscope collection came in my absolute favorite pre-cut size – 10″ stacks, and it is in a bright rainbow. Stacks are so versatile, and I’ve designed quite a few patterns to use them. They came with two yards each of two coordinating prints, too. This is going to be fun!

Check out this gorgeous pack of 2 1/2″ strips. These dreamy purples are singing, aren’t they? Crystal Sea might be the collection that finally pushes me over the top into bargello land. Two different two yard cuts of coordinates for this one, too.

As if the pre-cuts weren’t enough, Island Batik threw in two bundles of 1/2 yard cuts of blenders and basics to coordinate with them! So much gorgeous fabric! You would think this was like eating too many peanut butter cups, but there is no such thing as too many batiks. At no point do I feel full or nauseated. (5 peanut butter cups is too many, if you didn’t already know.)

Quilters can’t live on bright fabrics alone, right? We need some basics and blenders to give our eyes a place to rest, and Island Batik basics are wonderful to work with. I received 4 yards of Doughnut in this box. It’s a bit warmer than the almond I received last time. Mmmm. Doughnuts. Maybe I should swing by Krispy Kreme after work tomorrow.

I also received four yards each of solids in white, grey, and black. I’m not a batik purist – I don’t mind mixing batiks with standard quilting cottons. That being said, batiks are by far my favorite, and it is wonderful to be able to keep the same hand throughout my entire project AND use solids. Wouldn’t it be awesome if Island Batik came out with a whole line of solid colors? (And check out that ribbon. You know I’m going to hang onto that sucker and slip it into some of my projects, right?)

All right now, did you spot my new toy in the big photo? That’s right – I got a new die for my AccuQuilt Go! die cutter. Looks like I’ll be making an Ohio Star quilt sometime soon! Wouldn’t those mermaids look great fussy cut into the middle of a star? Uh Oh. This is how trouble starts. This die will be used to make a project in September. It is part of AccuQuilt’s BOB (Block On Board) series. All of the pieces for this block are on this one die.

Aurifil was kind enough to pop some threads into the box, too! Confession time – I’ve already opened up both the yellow and the green and used them in my Fish Quilt. It sure is more fun to make quits with such awesome products.

Last, but certainly not least, I received three battings from Hobbs. I am one spoiled quilter, because they included all of my favorites this time. I’m a new convert to the wool/cotton blend. I might start buying it by the roll. There is a Tuscany Wool/Cotton blend in a throw size, a Tuscany Wool throw, and Heirloom Cotton Queen size.

And that’s a wrap. I’m off to the basement to get stitching!
