I may have mentioned how much I love my new AccuQuilt Go! Die Cutter once or twice. I received it as part of being an Island Batik Ambassador, and it is a total game changer. I’ve used it in several projects already, and the more I use it the more I love it.
I reached out to AccuQuilt to find out about working with them, and I applied to be a Go! Getter. It is a great program, and I’m in good company. You might recognize some of my fellow Island Batik Ambassadors in this group.
I’d like to thank my good friend, Jackie Jamison for the fantastic photo of me. She did a whole photo shoot with me. It was fun! You can check out Jackie’s creations on Etsy. She’s a very talented artist.
The Go! Getter program is perfect for me. I get to try out new dies a few times per year and whip up a special project for the AccuQuilt Blog. My first assignment was with the recently released Fork Knife Spoon die.
This was my first time using an appliqué die, and it worked really well. I made a cute picnic quilt. You’ll have to wait a bit to read more about the actual project. I’ve written up a tutorial which will be posted on the AccuQuilt blog soon. (The photo above is a “stunt piece” I made, because I forgot to take enough photos while making the actual quilt. This will be made into a little quilt and donated to my local quilt guild. We have some programs that take little quilts. )
I also wrote up an article about the 2019 Row by Row Experience. This year’s theme is Taste the Experience, and ties in nicely with the Fork Knife Spoon die. You can read it here. This was my first time writing as a guest blogger, and I really liked it. I enjoy being given a topic, doing research, and writing. I guess I miss some parts of school.
Projects I’ve used my AccuQuilt in
- Bindings – All recent bindings have been cut using my strip die.
- Robbing Peter to Pay Paul
- Sew along projects
I’ve also designed a scrappy quilt using a die, but I can’t share that until next year. My next AccuQuilt project will be making my own pre-cuts from my scrap bins. The war on the scrap bins is getting real here. All of these partnerships are generating a lot of scraps, and something has to give.
Have you thought about trying a die cutter? I wish I had gotten mine years ago. It is fitting right into my quilting life and helping me a lot.
This is so fantastic! I never thought about using a die cutter to tame the scraps. I am loving the picnic quilt. That’s lovely!!! Well done and Congratulations!!!
Thanks, Dawn!
I really like the picnic quilt. That is a great idea to make a scrappy quilt and use the dies to give it some special zing!
Thank you!
Your picnic quilt is clever and scrappy! Love it!
Thank you!
I giggled when I saw the knife fork and spoon. In January 2013 I made a set of placemats called “table setting” for my daughter who had 3 pre-schoolers. She wanted them to learn how to set the table and the oldest was just turning 5. I did mine the “HARD” way; and thinking back, it would have been SO much more fun had I had a die cutting machine! Her placemats were done in batik that she had picked out; and have been well used and well worn. Your post really jogged a memory for me this morning. (I was in the early stages of my blog at the time, and I wrote about the project here – https://stitchinggrandma.wordpress.com/2013/01/23/table-setting-placemats/ ) Congratulations on working with Accuquilt! You will be a great ambassador.
Those are great! And thank you.
Good luck with the program! It sounds like a blast. I love my cutter and use it as often as I can!
Congrats. I didn’t realize they had such a program. I’ve loving my cutter. And I plan to make good use of it taming my scraps.
I hope that my lecture on scrap quilting provided some of the motivation for making the pre-cuts. 🙂
Using the cutter will be a great time saver.
Absolutely!
