Whoops! It has been a long time since I have posted an update on this project! I was a little behind on my blocks until today, but over the past three days I have finished off the ones I was lagging on, and I am now current with week 9.
Jen Kingwell’s pattern is challenging but fun. I’m really happy I decided to limit my color pallet. I would be overwhelmed if this was a free for all. I’m waaaay too uptight for that.
If you want to find out more about the sew along, visit Angie at Gnome Angel for all of the details.
Without further ado, I present to you: My blocks.
Week 6: Plus a Star
This one had nice big pieces, but it was super confusing to assemble it and keep the colors together.
Week 7: Churn Dash
I was going to have the light and dark blocks together, but I didn’t like the way they looked. These tiny bits were fun to put together. I used a trick from my Quilter’s Planner to make 8 half square triangles at once, so most of my blocks have a dark and a light combination.
Week 8: Courthouse Steps
Week 9: Log Cabin
The whole time I was working on these I was congratulating myself on my careful cutting and piecing. They are all wonky. So much for my ego.
Every time I pick up these blocks I have a hard time putting them back down. Spending three days on these this week felt so self indulgent. I’m torn between working on longarm projects and getting better, or just focusing on this and finishing the whole thing early.
Your blocks are coming along nicely! Look forward to seeing these put together. I have her small world pattern for some future date!
This is a really cute project. I am a huge “blue” fan in my projects, so I absolutely adore the color combinations with the scrappy look of this. I can’t wait to see more of it.
