I am participating in the Long Time Gone sew along, hosted by Angie at Gnome Angel. We are making Jen Kingwell’s pattern.
This week we made a block called “Square in a Square Stars”. It was challenging, and generated 60 tiny HST units for me. I was excited.
Here is the main block. I used this fantastic Lizzy House mice fabric, and while fussy cutting my fat 1/4 I cried a little. Not to worry, Pink Castle Fabrics has plenty more, so I ordered myself a few yards. Three Blind Mice was always my favorite nursery rhyme.
Also, did you see what I did with those flying geese blocks? The fabric says “ugly ducklings,” but they look pretty goosey to me.
With my leftover bits I made this block. I think it is called chevrons. I googled “hst quilt block” and this was one of the first images that popped up. It was a good one to make with so many triangle units.
Here are my two little waste blocks together. I think I will call them “sparklers” and I may end up doing several of them and making a mini quilt. I flipped through the pattern, and there don’t seem to be too many more blocks that use the stitch and flip technique. There may not be too many more bitty blocks for me to make.
So, after two weeks, here are my Long Time Gone blocks together, not to scale. I am really loving the way the monochromatic color scheme is working for me.

You are using some beautiful fabrics, I love how you have fussy cut them. Nice use of your leftovers, if there isn’t enough to make a small quilt you might get a nice cushion to match the quilt.
I just love all the blues you have chosen along with the low volume backgrounds. And great work on those T-niney HSTs!
I really love the colours and patterns in these fabrics they look so good together with the piecing pattern too.
Thank you!
Love your blocks. I love the three blind mice print, one of my all time favorite Lizzy House prints!
