I can’t believe I didn’t share about this experience earlier! I’ve gotten into a new publication, and it is so beautiful! I wrote an essay about Kawandi Quilting and took some photos of my process. The wonderful women at Curated Quilts turned it into such a lovely article – I’m awestruck and proud at the same time. I’m super proud to have my work in the Utility Issue.

In April this year I was excited when I noticed a call for submissions from Curated Quilts. They were looking for stories and projects featuring a creative reset. I reached out offering a piece on Kawandi Quilting, and they said yes! The piece was written on my phone in the car while we were driving from New Jersey to Washington, DC. I finished one Kawandi on that trip, but I wasn’t happy with my progress photos. It did give me some food for thought when I revised my writing, though.

When we got back from our trip I was able to sit down and do a Kawandi piece at my kitchen table, taking photos as I went along. I was able to capture some of the forsythia that had been blooming in my yard, too. Forsythia blooms for such a short time period, and it is such a breath of joy as the land wakes up in the spring. I love that I have such a distinct time stamp on my photos.

The whole process felt a little dreamy, and that feeling is reflected in the finished piece. The writing has a rhythm that I enjoy, and it feels like some of my best work in a long time. It also is a little bit of a guilty pleasure – other projects got pushed back because I took the time to work with a new partner.

Congratulations on having an article published in Curated Quilts. It’s a really beautiful publication, and it’s so nice to hear that the experience working with them was positive.
Congratulations.
