I’m happy to announce that I am offering an Intro to English Paper Piecing (EPP) class with Gotham Quilts next month! We had some folks request a virtual class recently, and I was able to put one together quickly. My class sample was made with scraps, but I designed the class to use a mini charm pack and a fat quarter. Over the course of 3 two hour sessions, we will make a 12″ square-ish mini quilt completely by hand.
Here is my sample. It is made with scraps from a jelly roll of Linen Texture by Edyta Sitar. I can’t get enough of these colors!
This Intro to EPP class happens over three Monday evenings in June. In class we will learn three ways to baste our shapes, and I will tell you why I prefer the method I use. We will then learn how to sew our pieces together. I use a “flat back” stitch, which gives me better results than other techniques I have tried. I will help you learn to make invisible stitches, and piece your shapes accurately. Then, we will learn big stitch hand quilting, for a more modern feel. Finally, I will show you how to do this beautiful faced binding, and avoid cutting off your gorgeous points.
Want to come play with me? Sign up for class at Gotham Quilts. There is a list of required supplies on the website. They do offer a lovely Beginner’s EPP kit, which comes with a mini charm pack. Mini charms (2 1/2″ squares) are my all time favorite pre-cut fabrics to hoard collect. Now that I have a pattern to use one up in, you can expect to see a lot of these mini quilts in my feed. They would be perfect for a dolly quilt, a table topper, or just to hang on your mini quilt wall.
Class runs three consecutive Monday evenings, from 6 – 8 PM, beginning on June 7th. Once you take this class, you will be ready to tackle any EPP project your heart desires, including Moravian Stars (my favorites!)
Oooh, what an awesome workshop that is going to be. The facing is a wonderful finish!
Great workshop. I think flat back is the way to go…I hate seeing the stitches.
