Well, February is in the books, and I’ve yet to fall behind on my Block of the Month. I’m happy to report that I’ve finished my block for this month’s Gotham Quilts Collection Quilt BOM program. It is amazing what being the leader has done for my motivation!
Each month I lead two demos, which we also record and post on Facebook in a private group. It is really fun seeing what everyone is making.
Month #1 was all about straight lines. I decided to combine my fat quarter bundle of Mariner’s Cloth by Alison Glass with my older Alison Glass print collection. I’ve been loving working with textured fabrics recently, and this mariner’s cloth is a challenge. The stripes get me a little excited – they aren’t super easy to keep straight, because the fabric is so soft.
In Month #2 of Carolyn Friedlander‘s Collection Quilt we explored tight curves, and earned our mastery by doing the same shape 46 times! If you take a good look at my bumps, you can see that I took a rather casual approach. Some of my bumps list a bit, but that’s okay. This project is relaxing for me.
My biggest challenge right now is really nailing down my color plan for the rest of the quilt. So far I’ve done the upper right corner and the bottom section. The next part bridges these two pieces, so it is time to think it all out. I’m infatuated with how the colors look on the black and white prints, but I don’t have much of any of those left. Plus, I want to limit myself to fabrics in my stash. (It’s okay to laugh when you hear me say that. I know.)
I’m still working on the borders for my blue and white version. At the rate that one is going, I’ll be finishing both versions simultaneously, in October. It’s a good thing this isn’t a race!
This is the THIRD version of this quilt that I have worked on. It has totally sunk it’s teeth into me. I’ve got some kind of needleturn bug now. What about you? How do you feel about handwork?
