Today I’ve got the perfect Valentines Day quick project for you. My Secret Heart Pillow is the perfect quick project for someone special.
I’ve been thinking about this one for a few years. Ever since I first did my Windows to My Heart pattern, I’ve been thinking about a companion pillow. My ideal was an invisible zipper, but since I have minimal zipper skills, for now we have a regular zipper.
I’ve used my cathedral windows heart technique and created a pillow with a pocket, perfect for hiding little Valentine’s Day treats. (Someone is seriously going to have to get me a grandbaby someday.) Oscar tested it and has confirmed that it is good for hiding treats.
For this project I have partnered with Sulky! They provided me with an assortment of threads and stabilizers to try out, and these pillows were my first tests. I can tell you that I really like the Sulky Cotton + Steel threads. My Bernina likes them, too. The colors are glorious.
It did take me three years to actually try my silly idea, but you should not wait. It is actually really easy, and so cute! My guild buddies confirmed the cuteness factor for me.
Not only is this quilt perfect for Valentine’s Day, but I’ve also heard that a heart with a zipper is significant for people who have undergone open heart surgery.
I’ve made two versions of the pillow so far. My first one was more complicated, of course. I pieced the heart to make it more fun. For tutorial purposes, I made a second pillow with a solid heart.
Head over to the Sulky blog and check it out. I hope you enjoy my Secret Heart Pillow. Happy Quilting!
Such a fun pillow and great idea!
Thanks!
Awww, Oscar! I’ve missed you buddy. Of course you make the pillows look absolutely fabulous . . . but the pillows are pretty darn spiffy all on their own. I adore the idea of the zipper for hiding treat, books or anything else one could imagine. LOVE this. ~smile~ Roseanne
