For the last month of the 2019 Island Batik Ambassador program, we are playing with adding dimension to our projects. I have the perfect pattern in mind for my project. I don’t usually do Christmas quilts, but I found a beauty by Yvonne at Quilting Jetgirl.
Mod Star Tree is perfect for an adventurous beginner. I love the abstract tree, and I love how it sparkles with my Island Batiks. The pattern is well written, well illustrated, and easy to understand. If you are looking for a fun Christmas project, this is it.
The fabrics are an assortment of red and green scraps I had left over from my various projects. The background is called Whip Cream. It is one of my favorites. It reads as white, but is less boring than a solid.
It was fun watching the quilt come together on my design wall.
Isn’t the completed top beautiful? I didn’t have enough of any single red or green for the cutting instructions, so I cut a variety , and pieced the stars together randomly. In hindsight, I could have kept things a bit more organized. Some of the greens are too light and don’t mix as well as I would like. But I’m going to call that “sparkle”.
I plan to explore trapunto with this project, along with custom quilting. Stay tuned. This project should be finished mid-month.
Also, check out this block I made with some of the extra squares I had cut. As I was piecing the red and green stars, I wondered what they would look like with just one color. Then, I couldn’t leave it alone, and I played with the corners and center, too. You sill be seeing more of this block – I want to fix the middle, though. Wouldn’t it be perfect for fussy cutting?
Be sure to check in with my fellow Island Batik Ambassadors and see what they are up to this month. I’ve seen some sneak peeks on our Facebook group – this month is going to be incredible.
Your extra block looks like a wreath to me. And I think that the lighter greens are definitely sparkle; every tree needs lights! 🙂
It looks great!
