Friends, I have a shameful confession to make. I have strayed from the path of righteousness. I’ve cheated, and it felt so good.
A few weeks ago Mom and I attended a weaving workshop at Urban SEWciety. We spent Saturday afternoon with the talented and patient Lindsey, from Indigo Road Studio.
Along with six other ladies, we were presented with cute little looms, a skein of yarn, and a table of other yarns to play with. I love yarn balls. I don’t let myself buy them anymore, but I am happy to fondle them whenever I get a chance. These ones were something really fancy – so soft!
I learned how to weave, which isn’t too challenging. That was the best part – I have a new little hobby that is easy and fun. We learned three different weave patterns – tabby, soumak and raya knots.
I chose to keep my palette calm, pairing greys with my cream background. I fully intended to follow the pattern we were given in class, but I started wondering what would happen if I did different things. Lindsey encouraged experimentation, so I played.
What do you think?
I enjoyed class so much, I bought one of Lindsey’s little looms to play with at home.
This is my second attempt. I was a little more relaxed in my approach, but now I have more questions. I’m limiting myself to only playing on weekends.
Weaving is easy, relaxing, and intriguing. I didn’t realize how freeing it would feel to experiment with a different medium.
Looks like fun!
I can see why you are distracted by this!
Hi Jen! The both look beautiful and I can understand why it would be relaxing. It’s definitely still a textile – I say enjoy! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. ~smile~ Roseanne
Thanks for sharing. It is nice to stray a little with other art mediums. Although tempted, I will have to stick with my goal of sewing up my fabric before getting into anything else, but I did enjoy seeing what you are doing. Please show more!
