Night Rainbow Blog Hop & Playtime

Welcome back to the Night Rainbow Blog Hop! We’ve been sharing a delightful projects all week, what an inspiration! I had a little bit of inspiration strike, so I’ll share what I did today. I need playtime every once in a while, and this scratched that itch today. Thanks to Deb Fisher for allowing me to play along and host this blog hop! Be sure to head over to Fish Museum and Circus and see everything she has to offer!

This idea came to me on Tuesday. Something about these shapes just made me want to embroider simple faces. I’m not much for drawing, and I wanted to see what I could do with a few embroidery stitches. This made me laugh for about 1/2 an hour today. Do you ever take time to just play and be silly?

embroidered faces on purple oval printed fabric. Night rainbow blog hop and playtime.

This piece will become part of an oven mitt. I might add more faces, but I might not. It was fun to experiment, and I like them, but I don’t have any more ideas for them! Maybe I’ll do a flip through my embroidery books and see if I get any other ideas.

Step one for this was to cut out a piece of paper with my mini oven mitt die, to make a template for the top piece. I traced the shape onto the fabric, then cut out a large enough section for my hoop.

Then I used 1 strand of perle cotton in black and my Milliners #3 needle from Sue Spargo to do some stitches. I looked up Kawaii faces, and just played around. They are definitely goofy, and they make me smile. I think they will be the perfect little unexpected touch to my oven mitt.

What is everyone else making?

Have you been following along? Make sure you check out my fellow makers!

Tara is the master of mixing prints. As someone who is uncomfortable with busy prints, I’m always amazed by how cool her work looks. Her Fan Girl block is incredible! The lap quilt is nice, too.

Sherri’s meditation mat is so dynamic! Also, she is doing a pattern giveaway!

I was with Lissa when she made her sneakers using Night Rainbow. Yes, that’s right – she made sneakers. She used the new magnetic cutting system from SewTites, and it was very cool. Plus, she’s got a coupon code!

Siobhan made an awesome quilt using a great skill builder pattern focusing on the stitch and flip technique.

Heather made a flippin’ awesome Halloween table runner! I don’t usually go in for runners, but I might break down and make this one myself. I love it!
