Night Rainbow Blog Hop Welcome

Welcome to the Night Rainbow Blog Hop! I was so delighted when my friend, Deborah Fisher, of Fish Museum and Circus, asked if I was interested in doing a blog hop to launch her latest fabric line with Windham. Night Rainbow is dark and moody, and doesn’t look like anything I’ve seen in the fabric stores, and I love it. We have a great group of quilters making projects with Night Rainbow over the next 11 days – I hope you are excited to follow along!

I’ve got some fabric photos for you today, along with a sneak peek at what I’ll be making with my bundle.

Isn’t this collection gorgeous? I love how dark and moody it is. There are plenty of bright colors, and you can easily mix it with Ruby & Bee solids in coordinating colors if you want to break up the prints a bit. I love, love the dark prints with just grey and black. You know I love making dark quilts, and this is definitely making me think it is time to make another dark quilt – maybe all grey on black this time.

My favorite part of Deb’s collections are the clever binding prints. There are 3 in this collection – all of this same pattern, but in different colors. The print is also very usable even if you don’t make binding with it. I’ve seen similar products on the market lately, and they have little scissors on the lines, which I wouldn’t want to show in my regular patchwork.

If you cut along the orange line, you will get a strip that you can fold along the black/blue line.

Then, when you bind your quilt, you can decide if you want the binding to be black with green loops,

or blue with grey loops. It is so clever!

I was planning to launch a new quilt pattern with this collection, but that idea fizzled on me. Luckily, I’ve got an even better idea. I have been trying to have art from my friends in my living spaces. I’m going to use these fabrics to make myself some new oven mitts for my kitchen. Then I will be reminded of Deb every day!

These are the groupings I think I’ll be using to make the mini oven mitts.

Plus, have you seen the new mini oven mitt** die from AccuQuilt? I made a bunch of samples for them, and one of them even uses one of Deb’s tea towels. I couldn’t bring myself to cut up my tea towel to make another one. I’m pretty sure my husband will appreciate that these fabrics aren’t quite as girly as the tea towel, too. **This is an affiliate link.

I’ll be back daily this week, reminding you to go visit all of our other makers, and maybe making some small projects with my scraps. (I’ve been working a shop sample for the past forever, and it is killing me. I’ve been spending so much energy making Kawandi that I’ve forgotten how to follow a pattern!)

Make sure you come back and visit all of my fellow makers! We have some amazing Night Rainbow projects that are going to be shared!

Oh, and do you need to get your hands on Night Rainbow? Of course you do! You can get it directly from Deborah at Fish Museum and Circus if your local quilt shop isn’t carrying. It is planned to be arriving in stores in August, although cargo shipping has been facing some challenges recently. Gotham Quilts will be carrying it, and I will post a pre-order link as soon as I have it.
