You guys are in for a treat. (I jest.) This semester at SNHU I’m in English 421, New Media: Writing/Publishing. I assumed it was a writing class about social media, but it is actually all about marketing myself and building an author platform. I was feeling pretty smug – I’ve already got my author platform right here. However, if I want to get a good grade, I need to make some changes. So, my website will be undergoing a bit of a makeover during the next four weeks.
I’ve been doing a lot of research into website design. I think it is finally time to make some changes around here. I think the last time I made any significant changes to the website was two or three years ago. At that time I was mostly interested in blogging, so I made the blog the focus of my website. That isn’t really true anymore. I still love blogging, but I am doing a lot of other things, and it is time I have a more business minded website.
You may have noticed that I now have a static home page. That just means that my home page will always look very similar when you come to dizzyquilter.com. The blog is still at the top of the list, but I am trying to make my website more helpful. There will be a page devoted to tutorials, hopefully well organized. (Just as soon as I figure out how to manage that. I’m so close – all of these darn “short code” things are confusing.)
I’m also trying to make it easier to find the listings for my workshops and lectures, now that I have guilds reaching out to me. If you go to the Workshops page you can see where I will be as the year progresses. I’ll be adding some more dates for teaching virtually with Gotham Quilts very soon, since my next session of Kawandi Style Quilting is almost sold out already.
Finally, I’m going to be slowly populating my finished project gallery and my WIP Gallery. The WIP gallery will definitely have more entries! I have two goals with the WIP gallery. First – I want to have a little bit of accountability, and finish off some of these long term projects that are laying around. Second, I want to help others realize that it is totally normal to not finish projects. There is no shame in starting something new for fun. The real shame is letting your fun hobby become an obligation rather than a source of joy.
And with that, I’m off. I’ve been working on the computer ALL DAY today, and it is time to go do some quilting. I’ve earned it. Go sew something!
Wishing you well in your new venture.
Thanks, Ruth!
