This week has been all about having fun. Monday and Tuesday I worked, and then it was off to play with my husband and oldest son, who is visiting us in Florida this week. Make sure you spend time having fun. I enjoy working, but I forget that there are fun things to do outside of my studio. This week my family reminded me of a few of them. Here is my weekly update for October 22.
Big Project
I’ve made some progress on a really big thing this week. I used my 10 seconds of courage for the week and submitted a proposal for a project I really want to work on. It has been accepted for consideration, and I’m biting my nails now, and also still working on it. If my first choice of partner turns me down, I’ll keep trying.
Classes
I need to spend some time putting a teaching schedule on my website. I’ve got teaching commitments for February, June and November in 2023! Life is good. I pitched a quilting class to Quilting by the Lake this week, too. This one is a stretch for me – I definitely don’t have the high profile of teachers they usually book, but they can’t say yes if I don’t send in my pitch.
AccuQuilt
This week patterns for Penguin Santa Stockings and Small Bowl Cozies went live on the AccuQuilt website. I’ll have a Bowl Cozy post up next week. If you have been watching my progress on my latest version of Rotation over on Instagram, that will be posted on the AccuQuilt blog any day now. I’ll let you know when it pops up.
Non quilting
My son helped me fix my WordPress theme so that my text is always black now. I spent several hours on my own trying to fix this since a reader mentioned my blog was hard to read. My professional programmer spent five minutes showing me how to fix it. He thinks that I now understand CSS codes and can fix other things. He’s so cute. But my text is black, and that is all I wanted to change. I highly recommend encouraging your children to learn programming. It’s working out well for him, and sometimes he helps me out with coding stuff, if I can explain what I want (and if he’s trapped in my condo with me.)
Other than that, I have been enjoying time with my family. Wednesday we visited the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival. I had fun for the first 3 miles, then enjoyed it progressively less. Thursday was a morning exploring the Star Wars experience at Hollywood Studios. It is very cool to get to wander around in those spaces and feel like in various movie locations. The best part, though, was the mother and daughter who went on a ride with us. The daughter was 6 or so, and wanted to pilot our spaceship, not be a gunner. We all agreed. Her Mom sat behind her and yelled encouragement and driving tips as the child shouted back her frustrations about the lack of responsiveness of our craft. Mom filmed the whole thing, and it was hysterical, especially our successful landing. I was delighted to witness it all.
Oscar enjoyed two days at the doggie daycare at Disney. He loved it and played himself into the ground. I think my son had fun, too. Lol.
I’m excited to be heading home to my New Jersey studio tomorrow. I’ll be back at work on Monday, and I have an AccuQuilt project to work on, for release in late November. Tuesday I will be in-person at Gotham Quilts leading a hand sewing social. Join me if you are in the area! I will be doing wool appliqué and embroidery, although participants work on whatever hand work they prefer.
What have you been busy with this week?
Holding thumbs that your proposal is accepted
Taking time to play and have fun is really important. Sounds like a busy but really satisfying week. Safe travels back to New Jersey and good luck with your proposals and submissions!
I’ve been keeping myself busy playing with an old favourite quilt pattern trying to make it look modern using modern prints. I’m also spending time looking for pink fabrics on-line for something that’s on my “must make” list. We are retired from our work-a-day lives, so pretty much every day is awesome!
Thanks for your Kawandi entries! I was searching the internet for more on them even though I took a class with Sujata recently. I love with this style of quilting. It suits my personality to a T. I can’t get with all the precision of regular quilting and I love the surprise at the end when all the colors and shapes come together. I find Margaret Fabrizio completely fascinating and I see that you did the thing that I love that she also did, color themes. I am def going to try that.
So thanks again for these entries, and one more thing: I have been DYING for a long haired doxie for a long time . Can you recommend a breeder?
Thanks!
