Earlier this year I found out that AccuQuilt would be releasing a penguin die. I was near hysteria. I immediately shot off an email pitching some kind of wool appliqué, and we decided a Christmas stocking would be just right. So, I present to you, my penguin Christmas stockings with wool appliqué. You can download this free pattern on the AccuQuilt website.
The more wool appliqué I do, the more I love it. It just feels so good in my hands, and felted wool is so easy to work with.
Cutting out the penguins then fooling around with the pieces was tremendous fun. There was a lot of giggling happening in the studio.
I just looked up the photos – I was making Christmas stockings featuring penguins on July 4th. Wow.
This project was fast and easy, and used several different dies from AccuQuilt. They have a bundle right now of all of the appliqué dies I used, plus the gnome, which is a pretty sweet deal.
I will definitely be doing some more wool appliqué with my penguin die. I’m thinking of penguin ornaments, or maybe a penguin garland. I wish I had small children in my life – this would be the perfect project to do with them – have them layout the penguin parts and I stitch them down. Someday I’ll either have grand-babies, or just adopt some neighborhood kids. Oscar enjoys stitching with me, but he isn’t big on participating in anything other than photo shoots.
There are also a lot of embroidery files that go along with these dies. It might be time to dust off my embroidery module and figure out how to use it.
That is enough from me for now. Go order your penguin die and start playing! I love doing wool appliqué with AccuQuilt. Skipping the templates, tracing and cutting is so nice! I hope you enjoyed my penguin Christmas stockings as much as I enjoyed making them!
