I am so excited to be announcing the Creative Hand Stitching Journey for 2022. I have been working behind the scenes with Gotham Quilts to set up a year-long hand stitching exploration class. We will be meeting monthly via Zoom, on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 PM, using Sue Spargo’s Creative Stitching book as a guide. Can’t make it to the meeting? No worries, the meetings will be recorded.
To get my personal embroidery journey started, I made myself needle roll, using Sue’s Roadrunner Needle Roll pattern. It was a great introduction to her techniques, and now I have a beautiful way to store and organize my needle collection. It was also the perfect way to showcase these fabrics from the Sew Good fabric line by Deborah Fisher, of Fish Museum & Circus. These prints will be available at Gotham quilts in February.
This has been the most elaborate embroidery project I’ve ever done, and I love it to bits. Embroidery takes a little more concentration than most of the stuff I do, so it is a bit more challenging. Each new stitch I master feels like a real achievement. Plus, now I have a reason to collect all of the fancy thread.
I did choose to stitch on wool for this project, and I will definitely be doing more projects on wool. The thread just glides through so nicely, and it gives extra dimension to the work, which I really like. I have one more little project in mind, and I’m eager to get it started.
One aspect of this journey that I really appreciate is that Gotham has set up its own platform. Rather than relying on a Facebook group, we have our own Gotham Quilts community online. No trolls, no spam, just like minded quilters sharing and inspiring each other. If you want to check out the community, you can use this link. There is no purchase required to be a member of the Gotham Quilts Community. We are busily working to make it a lively and valuable resource for our members.
I hope you will join me in the Creative Hand Stitching Journey. I think it is going to be so much fun, and I can’t wait to see what beautiful projects we all make.
