My latest handwork project is finished! I made a Moravian Star with the new English Paper Piecing Qube from Accuquilt.. Having a die cutting system to make these means I get to choose the weight of my paper pieces! I used card stock for sturdiness, and I couldn’t be happier with my project.
This die set is awesome, and I am so excited about it. It makes four different shapes – a 1″ hexagon, a 1″ 60o diamond, a 1″ half hexagon, and a 1″ equilateral triangle. There are separate die boards for the papers and the fabric pieces. The fabric board includes a 1/4″ seam allowance, which is my preference when doing EPP.
Having the die cut the hexagons from fabric does limit my fussy cutting abilities, but not by that much. I don’t typically do a lot of fussy cutting with my EPP – it is fussy enough to begin with. I’m really excited about this new set, and will be sharing more EPP projects in the coming months.
I wrote up a tutorial for the Moravian Star using the new die set for the Accuquilt Blog. You can check it out here.
The display stand I’m using came from Amazon – they have them in several colors. I really like the clean lines.
I am planning to release a printable pattern for this project within the next couple of months. I just have to wrap my head around how to illustrate the 3-d steps.
I’ve made several Moravian Stars before. You can see my previous posts here:
Have you made a Moravian Star yet? They always make me feel like I can make magic. I have to say, that making it with my Accuquilt Go made a huge difference in how quickly it came together.
