Kingfisher Quilt – Update

Hexagons with Dizzy Quilter

I thought I would share my progress on my Kingfisher quilt.  According to the stitch along calendar I should be ready to join my diamonds.  I’m not quite there yet, but I’m very close.

Hand stitching hexagons is one of my favorite things, and these big ones are so easy.  I have kept my little kit with me as I go about my day.  I’ve stitched them at home, at the dentist, while waiting for my son, and in restaurants.  Travel sewing is fun, too.  I’ve worked on this quilt on planes, trains, and automobiles.  I’ll be stitching on a boat next week.  It is always fun to look at an EPP quilt and remember all of the places it has traveled with me.  This one has been to Louisiana, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

If you are considering trying English Paper Piecing, you can get a kit for the Kingfisher Quilt at Gotham Quilts *.  It is a great way to dip your toes in the water.  This quilt would look great even if you didn’t put a flower on every diamond.  A scattering of flowers would be fun.

I think the stitch along will be finished at the end of July.  I’m not sure when I will be finishing my quilt.  The hexies and diamonds will be finished off this month, but I’m not sure when I will fit assembly into my calendar.  I have so many projects going on!  This one is definitely tugging at my heart strings, though.   I love how it is turning out.

Want more details on this project?  You can read my earlier post here.  I have all of the information on the hosts listed there.

  1. Hi Jen! This is the first time I’ve seen hexies used in some way that I could actually do. I love this idea. I’ll have to check out the pattern. I was in to making hexies and then stopped because I couldn’t figure out what to do with them. Thanks!! Happy Monday! ~smile~ Roseanne
