My Wonder Full Garden

Welcome to day 8 of the Wonder Full Fabric Blog Tour!

Surprise!  I made another quilt using my quarter circle templates!  I am seriously stuck on curves right now.

Wonder Full Garden with Dizzy Quilter

Lizzie Clark asked me if I would like to play with her new Wonder Full fabric line from Sweet Bee Fabrics, and, of course, I said yes.  Being asked to create something by a fabric designer is a big compliment, I am really flattered.  I knew I wanted to use curved piecing, but it wasn’t until I saw the Conservatory Garden pattern by Jen Carlton Bailly that I had a firm direction.

I used my 6 1/2″ template set, rather than the 3 1/2″ described in the pattern.  With less than a month of lead time, 50 bajillion tiny blocks just doesn’t fit into the schedule.

Wonder Full FabricThe fabric line has a great hand, and I love the colors.  There are 14 different fabrics in the line.   I picked up a bunch of solid fat quarters that I felt went well with the prints to give the eye a place to rest. The white background in the original worked for me, too.

I decided on a throw quilt, and I limited myself to some of the pink and blue prints. This gave me 48″ of design, and I added a 4″ border of the large scale print with a white background, for a 56″ finished quilt.

Here are a couple of my flower blocks being laid out on my design wall.

Luckily, I take a lot of photos and flood my mother’s phone with them all day.  So, while I don’t have fab natural light photos, I do have a lot of crappy ones to share!  Here is the top, before borders were added.

For quilting, I chose to use “Hidden Pearls” by Anne Bright Designs.  I liked how similar the elements in the quilt design are to the fabric pattern.  Everything was going along swimmingly, but then my computer crashed, and I’m having a hard time finishing the quilting right now.  Of course, I chose a pattern that is way to complicated for me to do by hand.

And now it is finished!

I bound it with a raspberry solid – I am crushing on this color right now.  It reminds me of the raspberry Italian ice I loved as a child.

I will post an update with completed photos as soon as the quilt is finished, which will hopefully be later today!

I used this Tula Pink wide back for my backing.  I love wide backing.

Give Away!

Lizzie is giving away a fat quarter bundle of the Wonder Full line!  Check out her post on Instagram for more details.  I wonder if I am allowed to enter.  They really are nice fabrics.  Hmmm.

Don’t forget to visit all of my fellow blog tour participants.  They have made such gorgeous things with Lizzie’s fabric.  Sherry doesn’t post until tomorrow, but make a note to check her out.  I’ve seen what she did, and it is fabulous.
