2018 – Plans and Dreams

Silk Close up

 2018 Planning Party

I’m joining Yvonne at Quilting Jetgirl again this year for her 2018 planning party.  This year I won’t be planning to finish off all of my UFO’s.  That is clearly not my style.
So much has changed for me in 2017.  I got a longarm quilting machine and started a business.  This year I’ll be focusing on building my business.  My partnership with Gotham Quilts is very promising.  They are keeping me busy and I love it.  I’m really surprised at how much I enjoy going into the city – in the past I have been a serious home body.  This year I seem to have come out of my shell.
Speaking of coming out of my shell.  I have become slightly more involved in the local guilds I joined this year.  The Jersey Shore Modern Quilt Guild has seen fit to elect me president.  It’s a fun group to be a part of.  I hope they don’t kick me out when my term is up.  I will also be serving as membership chair for Rebecca’s Reel Quilters.   I hope I can keep myself organized.  Time to break out the three ring binders.
Personal Quilting
My personal quilting goals are to finish off at least two of my older UFOs.  I’m particularly motivated to finish off my silk top and my Moonglow quilt.  I also need to get my Tula Pink City Sampler quilt finished.  They are too beautiful to be waiting in my closets.
Blogging

I will be continuing to build my blog, and participating in a few blog hops.  I’ll be doing Pattern by Jen’s 2018 Monthly Color Challenge all year, designing a new block for each month.  I am also acting as a co-host for the 2018 New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop.  I’ve gotten a lot out of it over the past two years, and it is time to pay it forward.
My plan is to blog at least two times per week in the coming year.  I tried blogging every day in December in 2017.  That lasted for a couple of weeks.  I won’t be doing that again any time soon.
Pattern Design
I have a bunch of quilt patterns drawn out in my graph paper pad.  I’d like to move them from ideas to reality, but it takes a serious time commitment.  The first one has been very well received, and you can see it in in the January issue of Sewn Magazine.  A precut friendly version will be published in February at the Moda Bakeshop.  I would really love to get my patterns published in some big quilt magazines – they haven’t told me “no” for my first submission yet, so I’m hopeful.
Videos
My Youtube channel will continue to grow this year, too.  I’ll be doing video tutorials to accompany my monthly patterns, along with different techniques I think are interesting.  Making videos has been fun, and I’m starting to get used to seeing myself on screen.
Longarm Quilting
And last, but certainly not least, I will be continuing to grow my quilting business.  With everything else on my plate, I’m content with it to continue growing slowly.  That probably means I’ll be swamped soon.  If you are in the NYC area, come by and say hi to me at Gotham Quilts.  I’m there most Fridays.
