Longarm Quilting – August, September

It’s been a busy summer for me.  I have plenty of my own projects to work on, and I have been lucky to have a few client pieces as well, along with my fairly regular stream of tops for Quilts of Valor.  The best way to learn how to use my longarm machine is to use it.

Anne entrusted me with this adorable owl quilt she made as part of a guild challenge.  It’s hard to see, but I layered extra batting behind the owl and the moon to give them some extra pop.  I echoed the willow leaves in the fabric with my background quilting design.  I’m constantly amazed when I try to draw something and my drawing looks like what I want it to.  Practice really does help.

Christine allowed me to work on this gorgeous plus quilt.  Her fabric was so beautiful.  I did a different texture inside each plus sign using straight lines.  I really like how the texture popped on this one.

This piece was for Quilts of Valor.  I used a combination of ruler work and free motion quilting on this one.  You can read more about it here.

Our Quilts of Valor group has been putting together several signature quilts.  It has been a fun challenge to come up with something different for each piece.

Another signature quilt – You can see I chose a slightly different fill for the solid blocks.  I like to be careful not to quilt over the words in the signatures in these.  The messages are so sweet.

The back on this one looks almost as good as the front!  This is another Quilt of Valor.  Coming up with something to put into the large red space was a challenge, but I like how it turned out.
