Long Time in Blue

I have finally finished my Long Time Gone quilt.  (Pattern by Jen Kingwell.)  I do so enjoy the sew alongs with Gnome Angel, but now that I’m getting busier with client work it is more of a challenge to keep up.
IMG_4034This pattern was quite a test, but my skills have been steadily improving over the past few years.  I really enjoyed putting all of the different sized blocks together at the end, and having them fit relatively well.
I did end up adding an additional border to the quilt.  Rather than three mixed up borders, I sorted my blues into dark, medium, and light, and added a solid white border.  My version had to be tamed a bit, and I’m very happy with my final result.
I had a good time doing free motion quilting with this one.  Each block has a different pattern, and they got more elaborate as I went along.
IMG_4039The backing is a lovely soft cotton from Kaffe Fasset.
IMG_4080My friend Christine embroidered the label for me.  Isn’t it great?

I took it on vacation to the finger lakes region of New York and tried to get some photos.  I need a class on photography, because I’m pretty terrible.
IMG_4038This is being bundled off to the fair next week.  Cross your fingers for me!
Many thanks to Angie at Gnome Angel for hosting this and other sew alongs.  I really enjoy participating when I can.  Seeing the parade of blocks is always so motivating.

  1. Photographs do not do it justice. The fabrics are lovely and blend together beautifully, the texture from the quilting is nothing short of amazing. A true work of art.

  2. This quilt is just gorgeous!! I will have to check into the pattern and maybe joining a sew along too. You are so brave for doing stripes on the back! It looks great!
