The Big E – Contest Entry

Last year was my second time entering a quilt into a competition.  The first time was a loss, and it took me a while to get over it.  I’m fairly certain I entered it incorrectly and had my novice quilt judged against professional machine quilters.  Not that I’m bitter.  I did better at the Big E last year.  The Big E is a massive state fair in Massachusetts.  We used to go when I was a kid, and it was a big deal.  When my mom suggested I enter last year, I was nervous, but I went for it.  I chose three of my most recent finishes, and I won ribbons on all of them, and a few prizes, too.  I do believe everyone who enters gets ribbons, but it is still fun.
This year I waited until the very last minute, and finally got my act together and submitted my entries.  I am sending the following three quilts for the creative arts exhibition:

Last year my hand pieced and hand quilted grandmother’s flower garden won the prizes for me.  This year all of my entries are machine pieced and quilted, so I’m not sure what to expect.
Judging takes place Sept 6th & 7th.  I should have the results by Sept 10th. Cross your fingers for me!

  1. Putting your quilts out there for others to enjoy, and to see them on display is a lot of fun! Getting feedback from judges and having your hard work recognized by others can be very energizing, too. I’m off to a local fair today, and you can be sure I’ll check out the quilts!
